Unexpected gifts

Merry Christmas from The Sticky Egg!

The Egg is spending the holidays back home in Kentucky with family, and folks are enjoying a rare White Christmas!  Rory Dog and I were romping about in the snow early this morning.

Good times with the puppy dog in the cute coat.

It reminded me of a freak snow that hit my home town during my junior year of high school.  We had been back in classes only one day after Christmas break.  It snowed enough to cancel school the next, which in the South — where they aren’t equipped for that kind of weather –  is about an inch.

It continued to snow a little more each day…and they continued to cancel classes.

We finally returned to school in mid-February. It was easily the best winter of my life.

Now, I know what you’re thinking.  Sure, but you must have spent the summer in school, sweating in the heat back in those days before air-conditioned class rooms.

As it turns out, no.

That period of intense snow and ice was declared ‘disaster days’ in the state of Kentucky, which meant the local school systems didn’t have to make up the missed days.

Christmas came twice that year.
