Paper part deux

Are these sticky notes a ‘good thing?’

Of course they are.  They’re Martha Stewart Sticky Notes.

You heard me.  Martha is branding sticky notes now.  Applying her custom colors — and what appears to be tiny notches — to the corner of everyday stickies.

They are supposedly super sticky — more so than the regular Avery brand that Staples carries.  And Martha has handpicked the colors, so they will coordinate with any other Martha accessories you have in your kitchen or home office.

Because using sticky notes that don’t match your home decor?

That’s definitely not a good thing.

Save the date

The last day of 2011. Blogs are filled with the year in review, ‘best of’ lists, and previews of what’s to come.

Me? I’m just psyched about my new calendar.

We may be living in a digital world, carrying our lives around on our smartphones, but I still love selecting the wall calendar that hangs over the desk in my home office.

It used to be a no-brainer — the New Yorker dog cartoons calendar every year. And then they stopped making it two years ago.

Bums.

So now I journey to Barnes & Noble, not knowing what calendar on the racks and spinners before me will catch my eye. But this year’s selection was an exciting combination of all the things I hold most dear:

Dogs. Movies. Celebrities. Kitch.

Yeah, that’s a cat. But he wasn’t dressed up for the photo. All the Jack Sparrow-ness was digitally added later.

There’s also Andy Warhol. And Austin Powers. Dame Edna. Mother Teresa.

Yep. It’s gonna be a good year.

My reward

Some weeks are all about work.

This has been one of ‘em.

I’ve sat at my computer all day, every day, and most of the evenings, too, just trying to get it all done.

But today is my reward.  Today is all about play.

I have the UK-Florida basketball game at noon, which is being broadcast on national TV (thank you, CBS).  I have tickets to see “A Little Night Music” at the matinee at 3pm.  And then tonight, there’s the Oscar red carpet and awards show telecast, which will start even before I get home from the theater.

Entertainment extravaganza to the max!

I feel like I live my life to extremes — either all work or all play.  This week is a perfect example.  But since today is the play day…well, I’m okay with it.

(I’ll go for balance next week.)
