I hope you’ve been putting your slow cooker to good use this year. After all, January is National Slow Cooker Month.
It’s also National Hot Tea Month, National Soup Month, National Radon Action Month, National Mentoring Month, National Blood Donor Month, National Oatmeal Month, National Polka Month, National Train Your Dog Month, and National Break Up Month.
No wonder we can’t keep a resolution for more than a week.
Even if everyone began the new year with an enormous burst of energy, do we really think we could give each of these causes the time or attention they deserve?
Darn those pesky jobs and families.
Perhaps some of these efforts would benefit from joining forces. For example, making soup or oatmeal in a slow cooker and serving it with a cup of hot tea to folks who have gone through a bad break up. We could call it National Slow Soups & Brew when Ya Gotta Stew Day.
Or conducting mentoring sessions at a local blood drive, polka lesson, or dog obedience trial, where hot tea, soup and oatmeal are served for refreshment…in slow cookers, of course. That could be called National Mentor Your Bloody Slow Dog Polka Day.
I haven’t figured out the radon yet (although I guess either celebration could, in theory, give you gas).
