Liquid lunch

People magazine is all about the ‘boozy popsicle‘ today —

watermelon mojito pops‘Boozy’ as in popular popsicle flavors spiked with alcohol — like the watermelon mojito pops garnished with mint pictured at the left.

Looks cool and refreshing, yes…and perhaps a bit lethal for the younger set.

But, I’m sorry.

Every time I hear the phrase ‘boozy popsicle,’ I think —

What a perfect stripper name.

Or maybe even the name of a band (depending on what kind of music they play). Let’s not forget that one, folks.

It’s a keeper.

Brave face

I should have gone to bed early last night. I mean, I had to get up at 4:45am to make my flight to Orlando.

But once Twitter exploded with the news that Craig Ferguson announced his retirement while taping last night’s Late Late Show, I had to stay up and watch.

To mix metaphors, misery loves rubbing salt in the wound.

craig good-bye

I love Craig Ferguson on Late Late Show.  Who else could even conceive a robot skeleton, dancing horse, and invisible band…and turn them into such irreverent, hilarious TV night after night? Craig’s segments are improvised and spontaneous —  and probably every publicist’s nightmare — and that’s why they are so much fun to watch.

I was truly heartbroken at the news.

Then I watched the show. Craig seemed lighter and happier once he has made the announcement. I think keeping the news to himself all these weeks has been wearing. And a future full of new possibilities has him all excited.

I understand that lust for change. So I can be supportive as he chooses this new path.

But I won’t lie and say it doesn’t hurt.

Giddy off

Many of my childhood beliefs have been shaken, but there’s one that holds firm:

If you suffer a bruise, you show the bruise.

On this Conan and I agree.

O’Brien fell off a water buffalo — of all things — while rehearsing a bit for a visit from animal expert David Mizejewski Tuesday night. Conan hit the stage floor hard…and the bit didn’t make the live show.

But the bruise on his thigh sure did.

Wednesday night Conan dropped trou and displayed the enormous purple souvenir of his not-so-smart ride for all to see. The studio audience. The band. Andy Richter. And oh yeah…

All the folks at home watching on TV.

At first glance you might think, “Geez, Conan — will you stop at nothing to get a laugh?” But I understand that, in this case, it goes beyond comedy —

He suffered the bruise. He shows the bruise.

It’s as simple and as complicated as that.
