Everyone is talking about the weather.
It doesn’t matter where you live — it’s snowing or icing, and the temps are dangerously low. Everyone is being told to stay indoors.
It’s for our own protection.
Yet in the midst of all this cold, a few bulbs can flourish in just a few inches of water.
In three days, I have watched them go from simple green stems to three visible blooms (and a hint of more to come).
Makes me believe that spring is more than just a groundhog’s shadowy promise.

What do you see here?
Two flowers? Some greenery? A railing and steps?
You obviously haven’t worked at Hallmark.
When I see flowers in pairs, I think “that image would work well for love, engagement, wedding, parents…or even mother and child” (if one bloom is noticeably smaller than the other or is a bud).
The same goes for groups of flowers. Or leaves. Or tree branches.
Even though I left Hallmark over 12 years ago, I still look at scenes in nature and put a card caption on ’em.
I think I may need a get well card.

My neighborhood streets were so quiet this morning. Rory and I only saw two delivery men and another man walking his dog. The hustle and bustle of New York City?
Not on Labor Day.
So I noticed little things I normally miss.
This little guy guards the entrance to an apartment building near my post office. I’ve walked this path for five years, and this is the first time he has caught my eye.
(As a Kentucky native, I am especially embarrassed to admit this.)
My friend Dick sits on this stoop most afternoons. Rory and I stop by and catch up on the neighborhood gossip during our walks.
Apparently Tyler chatted with Dick yesterday, too.
And these blooms were hanging on a tree on my street.
A nice end to a lovely morning walk.
