Today people across the US celebrate those who fathered them (and deservedly so).
But did you know today is also Go Skate Day?
The holiday was started by the IASC (International Association of Skating Companies) to promote skateboarding around the world.
So, clearly you need to get the dads in your life skateboarding as part of the festivities. Seriously — get a mental imagine.
It will be brilliant.
Happy Skating Father’s Day everyone!

I had appointment after appointment today, so I was walking through the streets of Manhattan for hours….which meant I overheard a lot of chatter.
My favorites were between kids and their parents.
Child: Mom, can I get a smoothie?
Mom: I don’t have any money.
Child: Well, can’t we just buy some?
Child: …we saw Adrian afterwards.
Grandmother: It’s nice that he lives close by.
Child: Yes, right by the sewer.
Child in Stroller: Woo Woo Woo Woo Woo Woo…
Dad: Do you simply have to be heard all the time?
Child: (silence) Yes. Woo Woo Woo Woo

It’s a running gag in television shows and movies —
Dad’s ugly recliner
It often has seen better days, no longer fitting in with Mom’s decorating updates inspired by HGTV. And when Dad sees it, Dad sits in it. And stays.
Oh, the hilarity that the average sitcom has mined from that age-old dynamic. It’s funny ’cause it’s true.
If you remember that chair–or, more tragically, still have that chair sitting in your home and rue the day–perhaps this recliner will help you realize…
It could be a lot worse.

When I was walking through baggage claim tonight in Terminal C at LaGuardia, I noticed a little boy — four or to five years of age, I’m guessin? — who was closely examining the wall-mounted water fountain.
His father stood patiently to one side as his son pushed the button again and again, seemingly fascinated by the stream of water he was summoning forth.
“That is so cool,” the boy said.
“It is really cool,” his dad replied.
And then we all smiled at each other and shared the moment, which was really cool, too.

Today is Father’s Day — Happy Father’s Day, everybody! — and like a lot of holidays and special occasions, Google has created a logo dedicated to all the dads out there:
Wow. Went all out, didn’t they?
I mean, on Les Paul’s birthday, they designed a Google logo that was a functioning guitar you could actually strum. And I recall a PacMan version of the Google homepage that you could play using your arrow buttons.
What does Dad get on his special day? A tie. A tie that just…hangs there. Doesn’t even swing from side to side when you click on it. (Would have been a nice touch, don’t you think?)
As usual, Dad gets remembered but not really fussed over. And he won’t mind. Won’t say anything. Because he doesn’t really expect much…especially not from the Google homepage.
Would have been nice, though. Goodness knows he deserves it.
