Winners

This is my friend Wendy Molyneux and her sister Lizzie.

molyneux sistersThey are writers for Bob’s Burgers on FOX, and last night, they very deservedly won their very first Emmy Award!

Congratulations ladies!!

Build a special shelf at your respective homes ’cause I am very sure…

This is just the first of many!

Is there an echo in here?

TV insiders have NBC’s Sean Saves the World on the not-long-for-this-world list. I’ve watched the series to date, and I tend to agree.

sean-saves-the-world-tcaIt’s not like the show is short on talent.  Sean Hayes.  Linda Lavin.  The ever whackadoodle Thomas Lennon.

Unfortunately, the writing is not at the same standard.  It seems familiar and dated…and the look on Sean’s face says he knows it.

That’s too bad…especially for the supporting cast members, who are so strong and deserve to be on television.

echo kellumI especially hope that Echo Kellum [left] finds a sitcom worthy of his talents.

He was so funny on the short-lived Ben and Kate on FOX, and now adds his unique comedic timing to Sean’s office.

Give this guy a good show, fates…and keep him around!

This is all FOX’s fault

I have not read the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy — pretty proud of that.

Not that I’m judging a book by its cover it…but it’s nice for a change to not be in a group that is being judged.

(Twilight scars — you understand.)

Although that doesn’t stop me from being interested in the recent casting announcement for the Fifty Shades movie — Dakota Johnson as Anastasia (whoever that is) and Charlie Hunnam as Christian Grey.

Dakota Johnson…in an S&M movie?

She was the quirky, funny, girl-next-door single mom who we loved and lost last season on Ben and Kate.  Well, I loved that show anyhoo.  FOX went and canceled it.

Oh, look how sad they all are.

ben and kate2Of course, Nat Faxon (far right) reached out and got an Oscar for writing The Descendants…and directed, wrote and co-starred in the very funny The Way, Way Back with Steve Carell, so he’s doing alright.  And Dakota gets…whips and chains?

Look what you did, FOX.

His and hers

What’s the Best Comedy of the new TV season?

Ben and Kate

I’ve watched ’em all — or it feels like it — and this show is the clear winner.

Don’t look for marquee stars here.  I haven’t heard of either actor playing Ben or Kate, but they are hilarious.

They’re also not playing the typical married couple.  Kate is a single mom; Ben is her brother who moved in to help her with her daughter.  She’s a rule follower.  He’s a maverick.  Hilarity ensues.

I mean — it really does.

Lucy Punch, the actress who plays Kate’s best friend, is always funny — yes, I know her — and the little girl who plays the daughter was in the movie We Bought a Zoo.

So there are your name actors.  If you need ’em.

Ben and Kate airs Tuesdays @ 8:30pm ET on FOX.
