Toasty

Merry Christmas Eggers, one and all!

Enjoy your day with family and friends in front of a roaring fire. Don’t have one?

Use mine!

Pretty darn warm, huh?

When you travel for business,  you pack a lot. You get it down to a science.

I can pack for most trips 10 minutes before I leave.

Personal trips are a completely different story.

I don’t know exactly what I am going to be doing every hour of the trip. There is no ‘uniform’ that I can put on for each activity.  Plus, my vacations are usually a bit longer…and I have to pack for the dog, too.

And he likes to have a lot of choices.

Deflated

Rory and I took our morning walk at 6am, so it was still quite dark on the streets of the Upper West Side.

Along the way we encountered two holiday visitors who I’m sure were supposed to be cheery and bright…but in the morning shadows were kinda lurking and sinister.

They were both five feet tall, too!

What do you think?  Do these blowies make your holidays merry and bright?  Or remind you of Chucky’s Christmas kin?

Let’s put a pin in it, shall we?

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at the Egg!

That’s nice

World-Kindness-DayThe Twitter-sphere is all abuzz about today’s holiday of note —

World Kindness Day

This particularly caught my eye because a couple of days ago, the New York Times reported on a recent study that suggests the two most important qualities to affect the longevity of a relationship are generosity and kindness.

So, while you may want to perform a random act of kindness or two to celebrate the day, being kind on a more regular basis could have a big ol’ karma kick-back for you and your special someone.

Just saying.

Bread dread

candy corn bagelTis’ the season for all things Halloween…

But a candy corn bagel?

Yes, that is the super-shiny, garishly colored baked product on the left.

It’s sold, of course, at a bakery in my beloved adopted hometown of New York City.

Now, I love a theme, but this bagel just looks wrong to me.  But before I pass judgment, I wanted to get your thoughts.

O Canada!

Columbus Day is a weird holiday.

I mean — if I worked in an office, I’d love the day off as much as the next person.  But celebrating the life of a man who enslaved and tortured Native Americans is a bit distasteful.

So today I pay tribute instead to a different holiday  —

CANADIAN THANKSGIVING!

Thank you, Canada, for so many amazing celebs who entertain us all in television and film —

Canada Actors

I’m know there are also female Canadian actors to be thankful for, but hey — it’s my blog.

I know what I like.

When the dust settles

A chance viewing on the great Google machine inspired the question:

With all the bizarre holidays out there, why don’t we celebrate Funny Chalkboard Sign Day?

There are so many really funny chalkboard signs outside bars and restaurants…and I think they deserve some recognition.

I posted some of the my favorites below.

Have you seen others that deserve a shout out? Post them in the comments. And look for the national holiday coming soon.

A chalkboard sign would be a really good place to promote it…

Will it go round…

I know today is National Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich Day. I pay my respects and send my love.

But for lunch today, I had the good fortune to have a popcorn ball.

popcorn balls It was part of a popcorn-themed gift basket that my brother and sister-in-law generously gave me for my birthday.  I fully expected to find different flavors of popcorn in the box, but the popcorn balls were a sweet, sweet surprise. Our family used to make them from scratch for Halloween when I was a kid.  I have burned my hands many a time shaping those popcorn balls.

Good times.

I just did a quick Google search — there is a National Popcorn Day in January, but no individual celebration for the popcorn ball itself.

Oughta be a law.
