Let it snow

The holiday decorations in my neighborhood have been hung.

I love ’em.

They remind me of the fussy versions from my childhood,  but are cleaner and simpler in design.

I hope they aren’t predictors of lots of snow this winter.  Cause I would like them a whole lot less.

There’s hope

Everyone is talking about the weather.

It doesn’t matter where you live — it’s snowing or icing, and the temps are dangerously low. Everyone is being told to stay indoors.

It’s for our own protection.

tulips2015Yet in the midst of all this cold, a few bulbs can flourish in just a few inches of water.

In three days, I have watched them go from simple green stems to three visible blooms (and a hint of more to come).

Makes me believe that spring is more than just a groundhog’s shadowy promise.

Clean out your ears

It’s Hump Day!

But in Montana, apparently the wind was blowing kinda hard, and the locals thought they said…

Ski Jump Day

So now they have snow. On September 10th. And more on the way.

Man, that is early.

Listen more carefully, folks.

Fantastic Mr. Reece

My friend Caroline is one of the most creative people I know.  So it’s no surprise that her kids are doing amazing things.

Nick, a filmmaker, has his mom’s skewed sense of humor…which translates into some pretty fun stuff on screen.

The recent, recurring snowy weather inspired his latest short, “Winter Clothing.”

Wes Anderson would be proud.

Pinch me

house of cards

Hi everyone. Sorry for the late post.

I’ve been binge watching House of Cards Season 2 all day.

I’m on Episode 10 of 13 right now. I’ve taken breaks for dog walks and meals and noteworthy Olympic events.  And later this evening — if I haven’t already completed the season — I’ll have to call a hiatus to watch a very important college basketball game (UK/Florida).

If it weren’t snowing again, this would be the PERFECT DAY.

Or we could fly a kite

So, Manhattan got four more inches of snow last night…on top of the eight that were already on the ground.

But the falling ice woke me up.

I don’t dwell on the weather too much — at least, not on this blog — but I have to wonder, as the local news reports power outages for thousands of residents yet again in New Jersey and other neighboring states —

ice on electrical wiresWhy don’t more cities bury their power lines?

Cost is probably the answer, but after a winter like this one — one that is not nearly over — I would think residents in New Jersey, for instance, might think of that cost as an investment.

Aren’t there lots of costs associated with fixing the downed lines after every storm? Trimming the trees around the downed lines? Lost productivity?  Lost revenue?

Lost food in the frig and freezer?

Just wondering.  I have electricity right now, and I think everyone else should, too.

A winter blanket

My day was as quiet and as beautiful as this looks.

Thank you, snow, for giving me a great excuse for some much needed couch time with the Rory Dog.
