It’s March, people

Dear Taxi TV and NBC Sports:

It’s March, the most wonderful time of the year. The month that means one sport and one sport only — basketball.

So how come your featured sports headlines list everything but?

(And yes, I scrolled down. It wasn’t there either.)

The conference tourneys are underway. NCAA Selection Sunday is this week. Can’t you feel it??!

Get with the program, guys.

Have you ever heard of Jeff Goodman?

Me either…until about 15 minutes ago.

march madnessDuring March Madness — the ‘most wonderful time of the year’ — I look forward to all the new names and faces and stories of teams going above-and-beyond what even they thought they could do on the road to the Final Four.

It’s the spirit of college sports.

Sure, we start with a Number 1 seed for the tournament, and Number 1 seeds for each of the regions.   But the games that truly inspire us — that have made this championship the tradition it is today — are those David-and-Goliath victories.

The Cinderella teams.  The lower-seed overachievers.  The bubble teams who prove they belong.

Which brings me back to Jeff Goodman, a CBS sportswriter based in Boston who seems to have forgotten all that.  If it is that difficult for you to watch, Mr. Goodman, simply look the other way.

The rest of us enjoy the view.

It’s here. My favorite time of the year.

I love everything about the month of March.

My birthday is in March.  My sister, dad, brother-in-law, cousins, and a few friends also celebrate their birthdays in March.

So there’s lots of cake.

There’s also March Madness, the most wonderful time of the year (especially when your alma mater is currently ranked #1, and two other state schools are in the Top 25).

GO BIG BLUE!

There’s St. Patrick’s Day, the Ides of March, the arrival of spring, Women’s History Month — hey, I am a girl — and bizarre celebrations like Save A Spider Day.

Let’s face it — March rocks!

The only thing about March that I’m not totally in love with is the birthstone.  I have always found the aquamarine a bit washed out and unremarkable.

But I recently learned that the bloodstone is a March birthstone alternative — stunning!

That seals the deal — March is the best month of the year.
