I’m a Veronica

I bought a ticket to see Heathers: The Musical in late March.

I finally got to use it tonight.
heathers the musical

Is it as dark as the movie? Definitely.

Is it funnier than the movie? Definitely.

Does its soundtrack feature some of the wildest lyrics I have heard on a stage to date?

Most definitely.  (We’re talking blue balls, ‘sword fighting’ — yes, you should take that in a dirty way — and a salute to ‘my dead gay son’ that rocks the house.

If you’re a fan of the movie, you will love it.  If you have never seen the movie — like my friend Beth, who joined me tonight — you will love it.  And if you love great parody…

You’ve probably already seen it.  Go again.  You deserve it!

All keyed up

Oh, the power of the postcard.

I got one earlier this week promoting the new Off-Broadway musical Murder for Two. It intrigued me so much, I bought a ticket to today’s matinee.

Let’s hear it for snail mail!

murder for two

Murder for Two is a small scale production — just two actors, a piano, limited stage dress and no costume changes — but boy, does it impress!

Both actors play the piano; they take turns, in fact, throughout the show. One actor investigates the murder that has brought us all together. The other plays 12 different suspects, distinguishing each with a simple lilt in his voice, a hand gesture, a carefully used prop.

The songs are clever.  The choreography of their movements — exits, entrances, switches between characters and the piano — are on point and brilliant.  And the show is funny.

Just so very funny.

The older gentleman seated next to me summed it up best midway through the show when he turned to his wife and said,

“What have you gotten me into?”

Ticket to ride

Question: How many tickets does it take to get from Boston to New York City?

Answer: Five, so far

Hurricane Sandy’s path and aftermath have made every form of transportation here in the Northeast a big ol’ question mark.  So since Monday, I have been purchasing multiple tickets on the bus and train and waiting to see which one would be up and running when I was ready to head back to the Big Apple.  The winner?

MegaBus

They are not my usual carrier, but they have quickly become my favorite since they are the first to re-establish service between Boston and New York City.

212, I will soon be in you!
