Meaty

sausage guy2Know this guy?

Sure you do — the sausage guy, right?

Always reminding you to eat a good breakfast.  Sometimes is being circled by the planets.

Nice guy.

Well, today, be on the lookout.  He may be pushier than usual.

sausage guyYou may even notice him loitering around….trying to insert himself into your lunch — dinner, too.

Sausage, sausage, sausage — you won’t hear the end of it.

And that’s because it’s….

National Sausage Pizza Day!!!!

Of course, you may have already heard about this from William Shatner. He might be wandering around your house, too.

If you see something, say something.  And have a slice!

Kirk, out.

If you’re a frequent reader of the Sticky Egg — and if you are, thanks for that — you know from time to time I celebrate bizarre holidays on the calendar.

National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day. National Cheese Doodle Day. National Iced Tea Day.

I’ve always known I had company in the celebrations — hence the term ‘national’ — but I also have an unlikely partner in their promotion:

Yep. Captain James T. Kirk himself has taken to Twitter to give advance notification of these holidays…usually on the day before.

Just yesterday, in fact, he told folks in his Twitter feed —

“Tomorrow’s 2fer may be confusing. Tomorrow is National Fluffernutter Day & National Pierogi Day! If you have questions Google or Bing it!”

No worries, Captain.  Let me break it down for everyone:

Engage!

Pause…a lot

Happy…International…TALKLike…William Shatner…DAY!

What’s that, you say?

You…didn’tKNOW?

Yep.  This is the third annual event, celebrated on the anniversary of the big guy’s birth.  It even has its own Facebook page.

There you can read the history behind the holiday.  How two guys had the same idea at roughly the same time and posted similar pages.  Then, before intergalactic war broke out, they realized there wasn’t any stealing going on — great minds just Kirk alike!

And so now, we pause — and I mean pause a lot — as we commemorate the great Captain James T. Kirk and his staggering use of inflection.

As the holiday’s creators put it…

“So come one, come all, andpause… in… strange … placeswhenyou…… speak… EVERY… March 22nd. Be instructed… by LaMarche’s videos… REVEL… in Doug Van………….Horn’s vision! And TALK….. likewilliamshatner.”

Like they said.

Use your words

When the first trailer for “Dinner for Schmucks” popped up in theaters, I thought the premise was ridiculous.

A guy can only get promoted if he brings the biggest idiot to a secret corporate dinner?  I mean, seriously — what were they smoking at the pitch for that movie?

But then,  they assembled a dream cast.  Paul Ruud. Steve Carell. Zach Galifianakis.  And the clips look pretty hilarious.

I’ll bite.

But before I go to the movie this weekend, at least one of the morning or late night talk hosts promoting the film this week has to get the name right.

It’s “Dinner for Schmucks.”  Not Smucks.  Or Shucks.  Or whatever the heck it is you guys are saying.

It’s schmucks.

Hearing everyone mispronounce this very common Yiddish insult is driving me insane.  Is it a network conspiracy?  Like the new show “—- My Dad Says” based on the Twitter account, where they have replaced the very common curse word with hash marks.

Is “schmuck” such a bad word that everyone has agreed to say it wrong?  That’s even more ridiculous than the plot of the movie!

And it makes me want to go see it even more.
