Who’s laughing now?

I haven’t watched Cooking Channel much at all, but a commercial for Cutthroat Kitchen caught my eye.

Host Alton Brown is always good for a laugh.

Cutthroat_Kitchen_LogoIf you haven’t seen the show, four professional chefs compete in cooking challenges while Alton Brown sabotages them.

But there’s a catch.

He actually gives each chef money at the beginning of the game so that they can bid to sabotage each other, making the timed competition even more challenging.  The eventual winner keeps whatever money he has left at the end of the game.

As the episode comes to an end, I realize it’s not for me.

It reminds me too much of hazing…or those degrading initiation days that some of my high school clubs subjected new members to freshman year.  The folks in charge are laughing, but it’s more mean-spirited than funny.

Just ask Jon Hamm. That stuff comes back to bite you in the butt.

Perfect pairing

If today’s announcement of the Dancing with the Stars All-Stars celebrity/pro pairings was on your entertainment radar —

You’re at the right blog.

When DWTS earlier revealed the celebrities for the season — all past winners, runners-up and audience favorites — I knew I would be torn between three:

  •  Actor Giles Marini
  • Olympian Apolo Ono
  • Race car driver Helio Castroneves

They danced in different seasons — the latter two winning DWTS with pro Julianne Hough, who is not returning — but head-to-head?  How will I choose?

The pro dancer pairing, of course.

And based on today’s announcement alone, I am prepared to predict the winner of Dancing with the Stars All-Stars:

Actor Giles Marini and dancer Peta Murgatroyd…and here’s why:

  1. Giles should have won Season 8, but Olympian Shawn Johnson — who is also dancing in All-Stars — secured the popular vote.  He deserves redemption.
  2. Peta won DWTS last season — her first as a pro — so she clearly has the chops.
  3. Just look at the two of them.  Together, how can they lose?

Can’t wait for the season to start and be proven right!
